The Georgia O’Keeffe Museum

A record-breaking auction: the sale of Jimson Weed/White Flower No. 1 by the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum

PROJECT DETAILS

The Georgia O’Keeffe Museum auctioned one of the artist’s iconic flower paintings, Jimson Weed/White Flower No. 1 (1936) at Sotheby’s, setting a record breaking price for a female artist at $44.4 million. The PR efforts on behalf of the museum included proper preparation for a sometimes controversial undertaking–deaccessioning artist’s work in order to refine or build upon a museum’s collection. In addition, JLH worked to bring attention to O’Keeffe’s impact on the art world, the integrity and value of the museum dedicated to her work, and the historic nature of the sale. The O’Keeffe Museum was a JLH client for over five years.
